The Veterinary Medicines Directorate Research Team are working on a project exploring stakeholder perceptions of anthelmintic prescribing and anthelmintic resistance in grazing livestock. The research will focus on SQPs who prescribe anthelmintics for livestock, specifically sheep and cattle, as well as equine species. Interviews will follow a semi-structured format, enabling participants to discuss their views and experiences in an open and flexible manner.

Participation will involve a one-hour interview, conducted either in person or online via Microsoft Teams. The study aims to gain an in-depth understanding of SQPs’ perceptions and experiences of interactions that take place at the point of sale of an anthelmintic, from their own perspectives.

Information gathered through these interviews will be used alongside research conducted prior to the 2024 amendments to the Veterinary Medicines Regulations 2013, which introduced a requirement for SQPs to record the rationale for prescribing veterinary medicines.

The findings will contribute to strengthening best practice in veterinary medicines for the profession and identify areas where additional support, training, or resources may be beneficial.
