Prescribers Invited to Take Part in New Research
A PhD project at Harper Adams University supported by the Veterinary Medicines Directorate, an executive agency of Defra [Project VM0557], is calling on vets, SQPs and pharmacists involved in prescribing equine wormers to take part in a new study exploring prescribing practices.
Historic blanket approaches to anthelmintic use have contributed to widespread resistance in equine parasites. With no new classes of anthelmintics anticipated in the UK, industry wide uptake of sustainable control is essential. This research aims to better understand current prescribing considerations and decision-making to improve and better target support for responsible anthelmintic use.
Researchers are currently looking for prescribers to take part in one hour Microsoft Teams interviews to share their experiences and insights.
“This is a real opportunity for prescribers to have their voices heard and play a key role in shaping future approaches to equine worming,” said Faye McTigue, researcher leading the study. “If you prescribe equine wormers, your insights are incredibly valuable to this research- please consider taking part. Your input could make a real difference!”.
