CANTER is delighted to announce the launch of its Research Roadmap, now available on the Research Strategy page of the CANTER website. This sets out the ambitions of the Research Subgroup and the key information needed to tackle the pressing challenge of anthelmintic resistance in horses.

The Research Subgroup, led by Dr Laura Peachey BSc, BVsC, PhD, Associate Professor of Parasitology at Bristol Veterinary School, brings together expertise from across the equine sector. Their roadmap identifies priority areas for research – from a better understanding parasite biology and resistance mechanisms, to improving diagnostics, refining treatment strategies, and supporting effective knowledge transfer. It also highlights the importance of addressing data gaps and creating opportunities to fund and support projects that will make a practical difference in the field.

Dr Peachey stressed the importance of collaboration:

“Anthelmintic resistance is a complex problem that no single organisation or project can solve alone. We need a joined-up approach that leverages the excellent research already underway, identifies the gaps, and fosters collaboration between academics, practitioners, and industry. Our vision is to create a framework that helps deliver meaningful, evidence-based outcomes to guide equine parasite control now and into the future.”

By focusing on both collaboration and funding, the roadmap aims to accelerate progress, avoid duplication of effort, and ensure that promising initiatives are properly resourced. The subgroup is committed to ensuring that research outcomes can be translated into clear, evidence-based recommendations for prescribers and horse owners.

CANTER warmly invites individuals and organisations to engage with the Research Subgroup, whether through contributing expertise, aligning projects, or exploring funding opportunities to help drive this collective effort forward.
