CANTER Chair Shares the Message of Sustainable Parasite Control

CANTER Chair Julia Shrubb presents at the Northern Irish Veterinary Association Equine Welfare Symposium

CANTER Chair Julia Shrubb has been busy spreading the word about the collaborative effort needed across the equine industry to tackle anthelmintic resistance and safeguard horse health.

In September, Julia highlighted CANTER’s work at the British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA) Congress, the largest gathering of equine vets in Europe. Her presentation was followed by a lively panel discussion featuring CANTER Guidelines authors Jane Hodgkinson, Tamzin Furtado, and Tim Mair, exploring how everyone in the sector has a role to play in addressing this critical issue.

Later that month, Julia took to the Chat Stage at BETA Equestrian Hub Live during the Agria Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials (19th September) to discuss wormer resistance and the growing threat it poses to horse health.

In early October, she presented “CANTERing Towards Sustainable Parasite Control – Keeping Horses Healthy for Now and the Future” at the Northern Irish Veterinary Association Equine Welfare Symposium. The event brought together vets, allied professionals, coaches, researchers, and policymakers to share insights on improving equine welfare across the board.

Reflecting on her recent appearances, Julia said:

“It’s great to have these opportunities to spread the word about CANTER and its message. One of my key take-homes from any of my talks is that we all — whatever our role within the equine industry — need to start more conversations about what we can do to safeguard the health and welfare of future generations of horses.”
